Our founder began his career as an appliance technician, gradually working his way through the industry as a service and parts manager. Learning the industry he worked his way to the corporate offices of some of the industry’s largest companies.

Despite his success in the corporate world, he never let go of a long-held belief: that with the right parts and a few tools, everyday people could repair their own appliances. He also believed that parts departments didn’t need to be greasy, cluttered, or uninviting. Instead, he envisioned a clean, organized parts counter where anyone—even parents with kids in tow—could feel comfortable doing business.

Driven by this vision, he opened the Appliance Shack in Newmarket in 1987. As the industry grew more complex and customer needs expanded, so did we—adding office space and establishing a dedicated warehouse to better support the communities we serve.

For nearly 40 years, customers across York Region, Simcoe County, and beyond have placed their trust in us. Their loyalty is the reason we’ve been able to grow, including the launch of our e-commerce platform to offer parts to a broader and rapidly expanding customer base.

As we look to the future, our goal is continued growth and improvement—but we remain committed to the original belief that with a few tools and easy access to the right parts, anyone can take on their own appliance repairs.
